A Ten Mile Bank civil engineering project has been honoured in the Institution of Civil Engineers East of England 2016 Merit Awards.
Ten Mile Bank Emergency Works, a project to strengthen the bank after inspections showed movement and cracks, won two Highly Commended Awards at an Award Ceremony held in Newmarket on Thursday 15 September.
During a routine flood bank inspection along the river Great Ouse, it became evident that approximately 300m to 350m of flood bank was showing signs of movement with tension cracks appearing along the rear face.
A failure could have resulted in people, property and wildlife being flooded and emergency strengthening work was essential.
The project was commended for both its physical and team achievement.
