One of the highlights of the Ryston Runners AC calendar took place on Thursday last week at the Sports Federation Club, a week earlier than usual to accommodate a booking required by Downham Cricket Club for a tour match.
The “Hancock Handicap” is run over a 5 mile course in a yacht handicap format, involving the faster runners starting later to chase down those who have set off earlier, with the time lapses cunningly calculated according to recent race form. The course begins at the Fed a Club, ventures out to and around Wimbotsham before heading back.
42 club members took part, with Angelica Rosenquist taking the honours this year as first back across the line (finishing in 39:24), and giving some hints as to from where her son, a talented Ryston junior competitor, might get his ability.
The fastest male runner on the day was Nic Bensley, the only member to break the 30 minute barrier (29:27), with Lorena Latisaite posting the fastest time by a female club member (35:30).
