Calling All Father Christmases for the Downham Santa Run

The Downham Market Santa Run returns this year as part of the ‘Christmas Lights Switch On’ celebrations. Event organisers, Peter Duhig (Winning Ways) & Frances Rayner (Downham Sports Coordinator), are hoping to attract one hundred Santas to Downham on Sunday 25th November. The Robert Foot Leukaemia Fund is the charity that will once again benefit from this mad event and last year £800 was raised for the charity. This year the event organisers say that local schools, clubs & businesses are showing even more interest in participating so a target of over £1000 is looking very realistic. Santa Fun Run
Downham Market Town Centre
Starting at 2.30pm
Sunday 25th November Starting at 2.30pm participants will be asked to don their Santa Suits and cover the two laps of the traffic free Downham one way system (just 1.25 miles) in whatever pedestrian manner suits them. Running, jogging, walking, pushing pushchairs or wheelchairs are all acceptable. Anything as long as it is not mechanically assisted. Santa Fun Run downhamweb s very own Liz, competing in last year s run It is hoped that the spectacle of one hundred Father Christmases running round the town before the ‘Christmas Lights Switch On’ will create a great atmosphere for the afternoon s subsequent entertainments. With a Santa Suit (flashing reindeer antlers for youngsters), a medal for all participants, and hopefully some spot prizes, everyone will be a winner, as well as helping a very good cause with a donation from their entry fee. New to this year s event is a Team Sponsorship prize. The team that has raised the most sponsorship by Christmas Day will win a superb 8” crystal cut glass memento, especially engraved with their name and the total cash collected.
