Downham Market skate park plans

Town mayor Val Starling has told Downhamweb that £40,000 funding has been secured to build a new skate park next to the Howdale Community Centre. It has been more than three years since the town’s previous skate park at the Memorial Playing Field was torn down because of safety concerns. But Mrs Starling hopes youngsters could try out new tricks at a new skate park by Christmas after the town s skate park working party was awarded £20,000 by not-for-profit business WREN last month which took the total available to spend on the project to £40,000. Now the working party wants to hear from youngsters in the town about what they want to see on the skate park. Youngsters can register their interest in helping to pick the best skate park design by e-mailing [email protected]. Downhamweb s Joel Burton says: “As a resident of Downham Market and as somebody who wants to see a skate park in Downham I think this is great news! Currently people wishing to try out new tricks on their skate board or bmx have to travel to Kings Lynn which I m sure you ll agree is a long way to go. Therefore a skate park in Downham Market would be very popular particularly as there aren t a lot of youth facilities in the town. I really hope that all of those wishing to use the skate park are able to let their voices be heard and tell the council what they would like to see and, more importantly, the council hear our views.”
