Downham Market was filled with crowds and performers at its first Downham Live event this weekend.
Artists and bands performed in venues throughout the town and in key locations including The Downham Market Club, Downham Town Hall, and an acoustic stage build especially for the event in the Town Square.
The positive response from residents of Downham Market has been overwhelming, in addition to fantastic feedback from all involved and many residents and visitors to the town. A particular favourite included the Buskers Trail, which saw residents follow a map to shops, streets and hotspots where live performers were pleasing the crowds with music from a range of genres.
Liz Pendleton, one of the committee members who helped to organise the event said “It was incredibly hard work as a small committee, putting on the first event of it’s kind, working in our spare time to coordinate over 40 performers in 20+ locations, but it was all completely worth it! The lottery community fund made it much easier, but it was the support of local organisations and businesses along with the dedicated volunteers in the community who really made it possible”.
Having had barely a week to rest since the festival, sights are already being set on next years event, with provisional dates of 18th – 20th September 2020 to save in your diary!
Tribute to Downham Live 2019!
It’s been a blast,
It’s been fast,
What a fabulous time!
We didn’t know what to expect,
For the first Downham Live!
But you came out in your scores,
You filled up the floors,
You bopped and you boogied along,
With the bands and the buskers the streets filled with songs,
And the Town Square was packed with a throng!
The poets and djs, the workshops, the cake!
Sweet sounds, mixed with laughter, the soundtrack we make,
Will stay strong, in our minds and our hearts,
This weekend might have just come to an end,
But really, this is, just the start!
More music, more planning, more meetings, more crew,
Downham Live, to grow, of course, we need you!
Support live music, turn the grey days to blue,
But first not to forget something we really must do…
