West Norfolk’s popular Celebrate Ability event is back for the 4th time and this year it is being held at Downham Market Town Hall.
The event, which has been organised by the West Norfolk Disability Forum, takes place on Friday, 21 November 2014, from 10am until 4pm.
Celebrate Ability brings together a range of voluntary organisations and agencies so that people can pop along and find out what services, support and facilities are available for people with disabilities to enable them and their families to be more active and lead an everyday life.
In addition to the usual advice and information that will be available during the day, there will also be demonstrations and for the first time this year, people can make an appointment to get their electric blankets tested free of charge at the event.
The safety checks take around 30 minutes and must be booked in advance. Residents can bring as many electric blankets as they wish as long as they state the number of blankets they want tested when they book their appointment.
To book an electric blanket safety test call 01553 616200.
Cllr Adrian Lawrence, Cabinet Member for Community and Housing, said: “This is always a popular event and we’ll have lots of professionals on hand to offer advice, information and support. We are also delighted to be able to offer free electric blanket safety checks to residents. It gives that extra level of security to know that your blanket is safe and we know from past experience that around 50% of blankets fail the test, so it’s well worth getting them checked. Residents can bring along as many blankets as they want, if they want to get their family members’, friends’ or neighbours’ blankets tested. All they need to do is book an appointment and state how many blankets.”
Please put the date in your diary and make your appointment by calling the borough council on 01553 616200.
