Tuesday saw the Anglia in Bloom Awards where Downham Market achieved a High Silver Gilt for our efforts in Anglia in Bloom.
High Silver Gilt is the highest award over the last 8 years and means that Downham is very close to getting a Gold. With all that the town as a whole has achieved this year, the team behind the efforts are sure they can build on this with a few new projects and flower beds. It is a great boost for Downham and shows that we all take a pride in where we live. Thanks go to the local businesses, local organisations, volunteers – in fact all who have taken part over the past year.
There were also some nominations by the Anglia in Bloom judges for other categories which, although we didn’t win overall, when you consider how many counties are involved with Anglia in Bloom i.e. Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Essex, the projects’ teams should be very proud.
The nominations were for the Flower Boat, The Willows Nature Reserve, the Schools Seed Tray entrants for the Best Young Person’s project for the under 12s and the Bread or Blood video and Art Work for the Best Young Person’s project for the 12-18yrs. They have all received certificates which will be formally presented in the near future.
