A North Norfolk firm has teamed up with a leading animal charity in a bid to save some of the UK’s most in-need and mistreated dogs.
Green Dog Food, which is based in Downham Market, has thrown its weight behind the Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels (BARK), a specialist rescue centre on the Scottish/English border. It has donated £250 worth of premium dog food to the charity, which rehabilitates animals through exercise and nutrition. The food, which is tailor-made and organic, supported the wellbeing of a number of dogs including Rocco, a four-year-old Lurcher, Takara, a nine-year-old Akita, and Ben, a six-month-old Rottweiler-cross.
Green Dog Food is also discussing ongoing support for BARK – which relies entirely on donations from the public. Simon Booth hopes the partnership will go “some considerable way” towards helping a worthwhile charity continue its work.
He said: “We were pleased to have made the donation of dogfood, and are delighted to hear that it was used to support the rehabilitation of mistreated animals. But it is clear that BARK needs more donations – from us and from other leading manufacturers – if it is able to carry on its exceptional work. As such, we are speaking with the charity to see how we can be of further assistance. ”
Jan Ross, BARK’s Kennel Manager, said winning Green Dog Food’s ongoing support will “hugely” benefit the centre, which re-homes up to 200 dogs each year.
“Often when dogs come into us they haven’t had the best start to life so we put in place a routine, training, exercise and nutritional program in order to establish consistency, and to increase their physical and emotional wellbeing,” she said. “But like many small charities, our work – and the charity’s future – is dictated by donations. We are, then, extremely grateful to Green Dog Food for its generous donation of super premium dog food and for its ongoing support. We have just had a case of animal hoarding where we have taken in nine dogs from one house, including four pups. They in particular have benefited from the food.”
