The Downham Town Council Hall presented the new disabled lift in the Town Hall.
On Friday 6th of December the new lift and refurbished foyer area in the town hall was revealed to members of the public.
Many attended and an air of anticipation filled the entrance hall as Cllr Robin Pegg, Chairman of the Town Hall Committee called for everyone’s attention.
He opened by welcoming everyone for coming and saying how the lift looks great and was well worth the money spent to make it happen before introducing the Mayor of Downham Market Cllr David Sharman.
The Mayor begins by explaining that it was brought to the attention of the council that they needed a lift during an Art exhibition hosted upstairs in the town hall where disabled members of the public were unable to climb the stairs and partake in the display.
With the help of then County Councillor Shelagh Hutson a grant was applied for from the Norfolk Construction Fund.
Once funding was secured the council then commissioned to Fosters the task of constructing the lift, the Mayor admits this was one of their better decisions as they did a fantastic job.
Finally before the unveiling the Mayor gives thanks to Councillors Frank Daymond and Malcolm Starreveld who project managed the construction.
