The Clackclose School Cross Country team has gone from strength to strength this year having won the schools cluster cross country event in January they have gone on to come 2nd in the Ryston Runners Grand Prix schools competition.
Frances Rayner, volunteer running coach at the school, said “3 years ago myself and another parent took four children to the Warren and were made to feel very welcome by Ryston Runners. The atmosphere at the event was fantastic and we were overwhelmed by the amount of children taking part. From that day Key Stage One Teacher Miss McDevitt and I have worked hard to encourage as many children as possible to go along. Each year more and more children have made it to the event each with incredible determination to do well for themselves and the school. Parents play a big part in helping the children to achieve their success because without them
transporting and supporting them to the event this would not have happened. A big thank you goes out to them for sharing the school’s enthusiasm.”
On Friday 19th April a celebration assembly was held at the school to recognise the achievement of all children who have taken part this year. Every child who attended 3 or more events was awarded with a medal as well as an award from Ryston Runners. Certificates were presented to all children who attended and also those with significant achievements. A trophy was presented to Harry Sharpe who was the
most inspirational and dedicated member of the team this year. Harry attended all 6 events and consistently improved his placing on each occasion.
Deputy Head Rebecca Westall said “As always we are very proud of the children who have put in the effort to run at Shouldham Warren. Their commitment and enthusiasm is admirable. These youngsters are an inspiration to the school community as well as the local community and all of the time numbers are rising. Keep up the hard work.”
